EFFECTS OF PRE-OXIDATION ON HOT CORROSION RESISTANCE OF Al–Si COATINGS

In this study, effects of pre-oxidation on the hot corrosion behaviour Al–Si coatings in a Na2SO4 and 25 w/% NaCl mixture at 900 °C were investigated. The results showed that after 120 h corrosion, large amount β-NiAl residual was found with no obvious sulphides or oxidation pre-oxidised coating. pre-formed oxide film coating prevented external O2– species such as S2– Cl– from molten salts directly contacting reduced rate TiO2 formation layer, thus forming an Al2O3-based reducing growth surface. Cracking peeling film, caused by internal stress owing to difference thermal expansion coefficient between oxides are suppressed; thus, resistance is significantly improved.
